BIZ Mobility is an international cooperation project aimed at improving mobility and accessibility in business and industrial zones located in rural and peripheral areas. The project addresses a common challenge across Central Europe: many employment areas remain heavily dependent on private car use, while sustainable and accessible alternatives for daily commuting are often limited.
The main objective of the project is to support a shift towards more sustainable commuting patterns by developing practical, coordinated and transferable mobility solutions adapted to local conditions. Through stronger cooperation between municipalities, companies and other relevant stakeholders, BIZ Mobility seeks to improve access to jobs, reduce transport-related environmental impacts and contribute to a better quality of life in participating areas.
The project will focus on analysing the current mobility situation and commuting habits in selected pilot areas, preparing mobility plans for business and industrial zones, and testing practical solutions that can encourage long-term behavioural change. Particular attention will be given to innovative approaches such as the introduction of mobility coordinators, the development of mobility agreements between key stakeholders, and the design of financial models to support sustainable mobility management.
In addition, the project will implement awareness-raising activities promoting walking, cycling, public transport and carpooling as viable alternatives to individual car use. By combining pilot actions, stakeholder cooperation and knowledge transfer, BIZ Mobility aims to create practical tools and recommendations that can also be applied in other regions facing similar mobility challenges.
The solutions will be tested in three pilot areas – Škofja Loka (Slovenia), Čakovec (Croatia), and Nagykanizsa (Hungary) – with the aim of transferring best practices to other regions across Central Europe.
